Best laptops for Arch Linux in 2026
Arch’s advantage is the kernel and the wiki. You get whatever the mainline shipped last week, and for the popular Linux laptops there is usually a per-model ArchWiki page that tells you the exact quirks. The disadvantage is also Arch: nothing is configured for you, so “works on Arch” means “works after you read the wiki page”.
What makes a laptop good for Arch
Rolling release means the kernel is rarely the blocker. What is:
- ArchWiki coverage. A model with a dedicated wiki page (Framework 13 AMD, ThinkPad T14 AMD Gen 5) is far less work than one without.
- Manual config tolerance. Fingerprint, Wi-Fi backend, suspend params: on Arch you set these yourself. Pick hardware where the wiki documents the answer.
- NVIDIA on Wayland. Still the weak spot in 2026. The proprietary driver suspends reliably on X11, less so on Wayland.

Our pick: the Framework 13 (AMD 7040). The ArchWiki page is one of the better-maintained laptop pages, all-AMD graphics on amd-mesa needs no blobs, and the only documented friction is a manual libfprint config for the fingerprint reader. Slotted RAM, repairable, 1099 USD. Suspend on this generation behaves once you are past the older BIOS.
The ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 (AMD) is the lowest-friction non-Framework option. AMD UVC webcam, so no IPU6 trap. The wiki documents the s2idle and audio tweaks. Best keyboard in this list by a wide margin.
If you want a gaming laptop on Arch, the ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) is the one to get. The asus-linux.org project ships asusctl and supergfxctl, which handle the GPU modes and the Advanced Optimus MUX. NVIDIA suspend is reliable on X11 and still rough on Wayland; that is the trade. The 90 W RTX 4070 throttles to roughly 4060 levels and battery is about 6 hours.
Skip these on Arch
The Dell XPS 13 9350. Even on kernel 6.18 with the IPU7 drivers, the camera does not work because Intel’s Vision Drivers are still missing and the Dell BIOS bug stands. The Goodix fingerprint does work with fprintd, but a rolling distro cannot fix a firmware-level camera block. If a working webcam matters, this is the wrong machine on Arch as much as on LTS.
Apple Silicon (MacBook Air M3, M4) is Asahi only, and Asahi is not Arch ARM. Different project, different answer. Out of scope here.
