MSI Katana 15 (B13V, 2024)
The cheap RTX 4060 laptop, and it is cheap everywhere: 250-nit FHD panel, plastic chassis, 53 Wh battery good for about 3 hours. Linux runs with the NVIDIA driver but no MSI fan or battery control. Buy it as a budget desk gaming box, nothing else.

ubuntu-lts: Raptor Lake H plus RTX 4060, the cheapest way into a 4060 laptop and it shows in the chassis. NVIDIA proprietary driver required in Optimus hybrid mode; the 13620H iGPU handles desktop, the 4060 for games. MSI Center has no Linux equivalent so fan and battery-limit control are gone; the machine runs the BIOS fan profile. The msi-ec kernel module covers some EC functions on supported MSI models but coverage on this exact SKU is partial. Suspend with the dGPU is the standard NVIDIA caveat. 250-nit FHD panel and a 53 Wh battery that lasts about 3 hours: this is a desk machine. msi-ec: MSI embedded-controller kernel module (partial coverage) →
