HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14-ew1000, Intel, 2024)
A 2.8K 120Hz OLED with 32GB soldered for about 900 dollars (approx) is hard to beat on value; just expect about 9 hours of battery, not the 13 on the box.
Compiled from public sources and community data, not hands-on tested. What that means.
Best on ubuntu LTS. Confidence: high

ubuntu-lts: Meteor Lake on kernel 6.8 or newer. The 2880x1800 120Hz OLED is the reason to buy this: set a refresh-aware compositor and it is the best screen in the budget tier. Speaker tuning depends on the sof-firmware version, and s2idle suspend drains faster than on AMD; check power-profiles-daemon. HP claims 13 hours, real-world is closer to 9 with the OLED.
