Framework Laptop 12 (13th Gen Intel, Core i5-1334U)
A repairable, modular 2-in-1 on settled Raptor Lake-U that runs Ubuntu LTS with no real fuss. The i5-1334U is slow for anything past browser and notes, but at 799 dollars it is the cheapest genuinely Linux-clean Framework. Buy it for repairability and a student load, not speed.
Compiled from public sources and community data, not hands-on tested. What that means.
Best on fedora. Confidence: high

fedora: Raptor Lake-U (i5-1334U) is a long-settled Linux platform, so this is the most boring part of the machine. Fedora 40+ installs clean. The convertible touchscreen, pen and rotation sensor work with iio-sensor-proxy. No fingerprint reader on this model. s2idle is the usual modern-standby caveat: fine day to day, slow drain over multi-day suspend. UVC webcam, no IPU6 trap. Slotted SO-DIMM DDR5 and the same modular ports as the Laptop 13. Framework KB: Linux on the Laptop 12 →
ubuntu-lts: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS 6.8 GA is enough for Raptor Lake-U. Tablet rotation and pen need a current iio-sensor-proxy and a recent GNOME or KDE.
