Microsoft Surface Laptop 6 for Business 13.5
A well-built 3:2 business ultraportable with a bright 600-nit screen, from around 1199 dollars, repairable by Surface standards. On Linux it is a project: the linux-surface kernel gets you part of the way and the cameras and fingerprint still fight you. Buy it for managed Windows fleets, not for Linux.
Compiled from public sources and community data, not hands-on tested. What that means.
Best on ubuntu LTS. Confidence: high

ubuntu-lts: Surface hardware has always been the worst-supported mainstream Linux target and this generation is no different. You need a patched linux-surface kernel for the touchpad, audio, cameras and suspend to come up, and even then the IPU6 cameras and the fingerprint reader are unreliable. This is a Windows business machine. If Linux matters, this is the wrong laptop, pick a ThinkPad or a Tuxedo. linux-surface: supported devices and features →
